Biography

Richard M Smith, M.D., is an orthopaedic surgeon who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of general orthopaedic conditions as well as foot and ankle injuries and deformities.

Dr. Smith is a first-generation Jamaican American who grew up in sunny South Florida. He attended the HL Wilkes Honors College of Florida Atlantic University where he received his Bachelor of Arts in Honors Liberal Arts and Science (cum laude) with a concentration in Biochemistry and a minor in History. After receiving his undergraduate degree, Dr. Smith earned his medical degree at Drexel University College of Medicine in 2018 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. During his medical school training, he was selected as a Medical Research Scholar and completed a year of biomechanical research at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland. Dr. Smith completed an orthopaedic surgery residency at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center in Cincinnati, Ohio. He then pursued advanced fellowship training in orthopaedic foot and ankle surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.

Dr. Smith is board-eligible by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and is an active member of the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society. He continues to be engaged in clinically relevant biomechanical research and has authored several manuscripts and abstracts in peer-reviewed journals. Outside of his time caring for patients, Dr. Smith enjoys spending time with his family (wife, Aderinola who is an anesthesiologist, and young daughter Tiaraoluwa). He is passionate about mentorship and outreach to individuals in lower resourced communities. He also enjoys cooking Caribbean-American meals, playing table tennis and pickleball, listening to audiobooks, reading and watching historical books/documentaries.
