Mimi's Story

2014, 2016 and 2017 VSGA Senior Women’s Golfer of the Year

Okay, imagine being 56 and near the top of your game as a senior golfer. Well that’s where I was before finding out I was going to need my ankle replaced. Twelve years of studying ballet and playing soccer had now caught up with me. In fact, after coming off of the course after my last tournament before the surgery, my pain was so bad I could barely walk. You can imagine the questions running through my head, “Would I be able to play golf again?” And, if so, “Would I be able to return to the competitive level I was competing at now as a 57-year-old woman? Would I be able transfer all that weight to my ankle as I came through my swing?” All unknowns but it was clear, the time had come for me to have my ankle replaced, and that’s exactly what I did with the help of Dr. Newfield and CAO.

What followed though is what I really want to share. I went through physical therapy with the CAO team, and at the completion of my therapy, three months after my surgery, I performed the Dance of the Little Swans, from the ballet Swan Lake with my therapist. What’s even more remarkable is I was back in the gym three to four times a week, out on the course in six months and went on to win the Virginia State Golf Association Senior Women’s Championship three times. If you ask me, I’ll tell you I feel I became an even better golfer after my surgery. For me, I’m doing everything I wanted to do with no reservations and no pain. I got my life back and more! My research had led me to a Top Doc, and in the end, that’s exactly what I got – a Top Doc and an amazing team at CAO.
